i dont belong at madison square garden [14 Sep 2006|12:10am]

yeah my dad bought me and him tickets, then asked me if i wanted to go and i was like "yeah" but then i realized later that it would be really cool. it's roger waters playing pink floyd.. he played one hour and 15 min set of mixed Floyd stuff.. "shine on you crazy diamond", etc.. everything had extremely awesome video accompainment. they were extremely well done.. the second set was the entire dark side of the moon album!!!!!!!!

and also, before they played dark side, roger waters came out and introduced nick mason the original pink floyd drummer!!!! and then they played it all with again, reall sweet video and lights and crap. then after that, they did another brick in the wall, vera lynn, bring the boys back home, and comfortably numb as encores.. which were also cool!

shitty things:

we saw him at madison square garden, and it was sold out, but we had good seats. too bad though that everyone around us was such fucking wastes. i had 2 drunk goons in front of me flipping off the floating pig (they had a floating pig flying around the arena with anti-war things spray painted on it) as it flew by and they saw the 'impeach bush' thing on it. then this realllllllllly trashy 40+ year old groupie-type girl was spaced out drunk/high dancing all over our section for the entire show. i wanted to boot party her face so hard the entire time.

there were a ton of drunk surly dudes smoking pot all over the place. it was so weird. like 55 year old guys in mocassins smoking bowls with each other..

i had an extremely drunk fat don vito type guy fall down the steps (i had an aisle seat) and land on his back and kick my foot as he fell.. he did this twice in 2 minutes!!!!!! drunk man!! he came down to hit on the slutty girl dancing in front of my seat.

fuck that!!! half of pink floyd fans = chill, the other half were totally embarassing

plus it was really loud!!

umm -- RIGHT after the last note ended like 1,000 people simultaneously started to leave and it was CRAZYYYY. as i was racing out in my trio of my dad, the dude he works with, and me.. i was thinking that if there was a fire people would probably not even be going as fast as we all were. weird, i didn't like being a part of that entire group mentality crap but it's also survival of the fittest baby.

probably the best website ever. [19 Dec 2005|02:14am]
http://www.retrojunk.com/

it's an archive of tv shows, commercials, movies, articles, etc. from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. from what i can tell, there's nothing really missing. what's great is everything is just straight forward movie files, so you can go through a bunch of them easily.

but man.. they have the crossfire commercial. just go browse that site, you'll be on it for hours i'd imagine.

I need ideas for Christmas presents. My Aunt wants me to tell her something she can get me for around $30 at Best Buy. So basically DVDs.

Any suggestions? Movies, TV Shows, Boxed Sets, etc? I was thinking about an Adult Swim boxed set or something..

fight corrupt cops. my rant. [11 Jun 2005|03:26am]
Dear Editor,
I am writing on behalf of a vast majority of young drivers whose nights are filled with paranoia and fear of the police. Why? Because they are doing nothing wrong. They do not speed, they are not under any influences, and they are not transporting any substances.

So what do they have to fear? Stereotyping. Unfairness. Prejudice. Belligerence. All this delivered pleasantly by those who claim their job is to serve and protect.

While it is true, that in this quiet town of Ramsey, the police do not have much to do compared to urban or more densely populated areas in which there is a higher crime rate. I will also concede that our department does participate in a good portion of well-intentioned programs such as D.A.R.E., et al. However, as the day begins to end, the attitudes of the police shift from being helpful, to harassing. From respectful, to rude.

On this past Friday, June 10th, at around 11:55 PM, I set out from my home with two friends in my car. We had just finished watching a movie, and left to pick up another friend and get something to eat from a local diner. After pulling onto our then unpopulated Main Street, a familiar sight to all drivers my age appeared in my rear view mirror: the good old Ramsey Police Force.

I was going the speed limit, I am 18 years of age, and I was driving perfectly. I thought, no big deal. I continued down North Central, and then made a left onto Darlington. The police car was still behind me, now with it’s high beams on. I was under the impression it is common courtesy to turn down your ‘brights’ when you are behind someone, but maybe I am mistaken, as this officers example indicated. Still abiding all traffic laws, signaling at least 100 feet before a turn, going Darlington’s speed limit of 35 miles per hour, I began anticipating arriving at my friend’s house so that this officer, now tailgating, would finally leave me alone.

The inevitable happened after five minutes of being followed. This car which I had become acquainted with filling up my rear view mirror threw it’s lights on and I was pulled over, conveniently, I might add, at exactly midnight, the curfew for provisional licenses. It was clear this patrolman was trying to maximize his chances of writing a ticket for me this evening.

I got my license, registration, and insurance cards ready and awaited the officer at my window. It was then I noticed that the Ramsey Police decided that tonight they were going to waste their resources and send two cars to pull me over. Again, for no reason at all. I can just hear this radio transmission, “I’m following what looks like a teenager doing the speed limit. It’s pretty dark out. Send back-up.”

Ridiculous.

As they approached my car, these two officers obviously having no moving violations to charge me with, scraped the bottom of the barrel to look at my plates. No, Sir, nothing wrong. My stickers? Nothing, all up to date. What about my taillights? Sorry, they’re all good too.

I presented my information, politely, without asking why I was pulled over. This was my mistake, as I was never actually informed of any reason. My friend in the passenger side of the back had the second officer sidling up on her. Her hand accidentally grazed his that was now rested upon my open window. She apologized, giggled and told him she didn’t see him standing there. With this, he threatened her with a 675 dollar fine.

This was laughable, but I remained composed. The officer proceeded to ask me if I was 17 years old. Apparently he could not read the license I had just a moment ago handed him. Part of me almost felt bad. These officers could just not find anything wrong. They left, disappointed that a crap-shoot attempt at issuing some tickets had failed, and they would not be spoiling any teenagers night this evening.

I have seen countless of our officers talking on cell phones while driving. Isn’t this illegal? I have seen countless of our officers speeding along at night, clearly above the limits the law institutes. Isn’t this illegal? I have also seen countless of our officers put their flashing lights on just so they can justify running a red, or to make an illegal turn, only to turn their lights off seconds later. Are the police above the law? Are they able to perform these things, which according to the law are illegal, and get no reprimand for it? Yet the fact remains, I can be abiding the law, and still get pulled over.

Honestly, I cannot say I am happy that our police department has absolutely nothing else to do on a Friday night aside from randomly pulling over young looking drivers in a blatant stereotype. Not only is this a waste of time, but a waste of resources. It is not necessary to dispatch two units unless backup is necessary. Had these officers ran my plates, which I assume they did, they would see no past record of any violations. Two cars, without reason, is not acceptable. Tax dollars should not be used to keep society safe from the menaces that are innocent drivers.

After finally pulling into my friend’s driveway that evening, we filed a complaint to the station detailing this completely aggravating occurrence. What’s worse is, I know nothing will be done as a result of this. The fact officers can get away with almost anything scares me more than any crime they claim to protect us against in this upper-middle class shell of Ramsey, NJ.

Sincerely,
Christopher Scala
